Largely supported by private philanthropic investment, our community-based programs engage and connect individuals to the resources that meet their emerging needs and aspirations. We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.



Neighborhood Tax Centers helps thousands of hard-working, low income families by preparing their tax returns for free at several Houston area locations. Please consider joining our team if you are interested in helping others while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment.

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for recruitment, engagement, and retention of 500+ volunteers who prepare taxes and provide other services at each of our tax centers. This includes making recruitment presentations at schools, companies, and other organizations; regular communication to keep volunteers informed and engaged; quick, helpful responsiveness to volunteer questions and problems; and accurate maintenance of volunteer records.


  • Work with the Community Relations Senior Manager to develop recruitment opportunities with new and existing partners
  • Make recruitment presentations at schools, companies, and other organizations as scheduled, primarily September-November
  • Develop and update tools to improve communication and responsiveness with volunteers at peak times of demand
  • Track key volunteer numbers multiple times per week during tax season
  • Regularly engage with volunteers throughout the year to increase retention of volunteers for upcoming tax seasons
  • Assist at tax centers as needed to engage with volunteers and meet client demand at the site
  • Organize and host volunteer events in the fall and spring
  • Accurately maintain volunteer records in the BakerRipley volunteer database, Samaritan
  • Post all training and tax center shifts in Samaritan
  • Provide reports and information about volunteers as needed
  • Ensure that all volunteers have met the necessary criteria before being cleared to volunteer
  • Accurately maintain all volunteer records required by the IRS 
  • Pass the Advanced certification test prior to each tax season
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements



  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution preferred


  • 3 years’ related experience
