We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:

Each year Neighborhood Tax Centers assists thousands of hard-working, low income families by preparing tax returns for free at twelve locations in the Houston area.  If you are interested in  helping others while working in a fast paced, stimulating environment, please consider joining our team.

The ITIN Assistant will assist the ITIN and Site Coordinator in all duties associated with the preparation of ITIN applications and renewals for tax center clients.  The ITIN Assistant will work at the BakerRipley Gulfton Sharpstown Campus tax center location.


CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the NTC tax preparation training in December
  • Pass the IRS Advanced Certification test
  • Assist in preparation of tax return and Form W-7 (Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)
  • Verify client documents needed to submit to IRS along with W-7 are complete and authentic
  • Review ITIN acceptance and rejection letters received from IRS for applicants
  • Contact clients to request additional documents or information
  • Update client database of ITIN applicants
  • Other duties as assigned by the ITIN and Site Coordinator or Director

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree  or equivalent combination of education and experience

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years of customer service experience
  • Tax experience preferred but not required

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Ability to work quickly with great attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and long hours from January-April

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completely fluent in Spanish and English
