Job Description

BakerRipley provides an integrated holistic education system for families and their children ages six months through eighth grade. The Choices in Education division oversees the early childhood education programs and the BakerRipley Schools, including three community-based elementary schools, one middle school, and a “New Neighbor” school for refugee children – all of which reside within our community centers. Our holistic approach to educating the entire family allows us to create a stronger and more positive impact in the community. Both children and their parents gain access to education and broader community resources to prepare them for a successful degree and/or career. 
 
JOB SUMMARY:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide assessments and services for students with suspected and verified speech and language disabilities. 
 
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide appropriate services to identified students.
  • Using appropriate testing instruments assess students to identify qualification for services in the areas of speech and language.
  • Provide support with parent communication and ARD meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, agency policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Provide staff development, conduct staff meetings, and serve on staff committees as requested.
  • Assist teachers in identifying and supporting students with possible speech and language disabilities.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs of disabled students and assists teachers in following requirements set forth in the Individual Education Plans.
  • Strive to model, by instruction and action, the agency’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Master’s Degree in Education and Communications Disorders.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 3 years of exemplary experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid Speech Language Pathologist license in the state of Texas.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.


SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the agency.
  • Ability to develop unique and novel solutions to problems.
  • Ability to communicate with students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to travel throughout the city.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

Proficient in MS Office Products.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
