Job Description

The Adult Educational Services Division was created to provide instructional and support services to adult learners throughout the neighborhoods served by BakerRipley. The division provides life-long educational opportunities to adults and seeks to address the unique and evolving needs of adult individuals and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively as members of their neighborhood, as employees, and as an adult family member. The goal of the division is to enable adults to become more educated, employable, and productive members of their communities through education, literacy, and skills training.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall direction of the division’s adult education and support services. Develops new and strategic initiatives, partnerships, and programs in the area of adult education and skills training. Identifies strategies for growth and sustainability. Program areas include but not limited to - Adult Basic Education, High School and GED attainment, English as a Second Language, EL Civics, Career and Technical Education and Apprenticeships, Adult Literacy, and Opportunity Youth and young adult education.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains relationships with local government, schools, universities and community colleges, businesses, and other community partners to cultivate new adult education and literacy programs and services
  • Develops and oversees the implementation of innovative and successful programs, including but not limited to - Adult Basic Education, High School and GED attainment, English as a Second Language, EL Civics, Career and Technical Education and Apprenticeships, Adult Literacy, and Opportunity Youth and young adult education.
  • Maintains a pulse on latest adult education and literacy research , best practices, and issues; makes recommendations to ensure our work remains relevant and transformative
  • Assist and works with team members in the areas of grant writing, planning, management, program execution and communications
  • Develop, appropriately identify, apply for and manage grant funds where applicable
  • Actively participates in Agency meetings and provides input that facilitates the successful implementation of programs
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness with problem solving
  • Identify and initiate processes for program evaluation and improvement
  • Operate program within allocated budget
  • Evaluate teaching staff according to Agency schedule
  • Cultivate and support team work among program staff
  • Participate in project teams, outreach, training as requires
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Sociology or related field preferred

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

5-7 years working with Adult Education or Literacy program

Minimum of (1) year of social services experience preferred

SKILLS:

  • Knowledgeable with the Communicative Approach
  • Participatory Methodology/Popular Education
  • Strategies, and Processes to Deliver Goal-Driven Instruction for Adult Learners
  • Develop and monitor program outcomes, goals, and evaluation in partnership with program developers
  • Input information into database for program evaluation
  • Complete summative reports
  • Communicate effectively about agency programs and objectives to external partners
  • Provide information and resources that help promote the program
  • Commitment to the mission of BakerRipley
  • Ability to work as a team member with volunteers and paid staff
  • Self-directed with the ability to work under stressful situations
  • Multi task oriented and flexible
  • Sensitivity and understanding in dealing with people
  • Very knowledgeable with Adult Education initiatives and holistic approaches to teach adult learners facing low literacy levels
  • Knowledgeable implementing adult education programs mandated by federal and state regulations
  • Able to work flexible hours including evening and weekends, depending Adult Education class schedule
  • Maintain awareness of current English language conventions
  • Attend mandatory training/professional development and meetings
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and successful experience working in teams
  • Service connection experience helpful

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

Proficient in use of Windows, Excel, MS Word

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual preferred
