We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB SUMMARY:

Neighborhood Tax Centers helps thousands of hard-working, low income families by preparing their tax returns for free at twelve Houston area locations. Please consider joining our team if you are interested in helping others while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment.

The Seasonal Tax Center Manager is responsible for managing one of several tax sites in Houston during tax season. This includes training and assisting volunteers, preparing tax returns, performing quality reviews, maintaining a smoothly operating site, resolving conflicts, monitoring equipment and supply inventory, maintaining the confidentiality of client information, meeting all IRS requirements, and maintaining a good relationship with host staff.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends the NTC tax preparation training class in December
  • Passes the Advanced and Health Savings Account IRS certification tests
  • Prepares accurate tax returns and performs quality reviews of returns prepared by other staff and volunteers
  • Ensures accurate preparation of tax returns through supervision and instruction of volunteers and research in NTC and IRS resource material
  • Maintains a professional and welcoming environment for clients and handles problems or conflicts that arise promptly and in a professional manner
  • Determine cut-off times for clients in accordance with site hour restrictions and volunteer capacity
  • Ensures that tax center always has sufficient supplies and forms
  • Ensures that confidential documents are handled properly
  • Ensures that equipment is accounted for at all times and securely stored when not in use
  • Ensures that all required IRS and tax center posters are posted and visible
  • Maintains a good relationship with the host staff and ensures facilities are in excellent condition whenever the tax center is open
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Director

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of education and experience

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Three years tax preparation of individual returns

One year of customer service experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Enrolled Agent or CPA preferred but not required

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required
