JOB SUMMARY:

The Personal Care Assistant is a highly motivated individual with a passion and talent for working with people with dementia.  Serving at the Adult Day Center, Houston’s first dementia-specific adult day facility, the PCA will serve on a team dedicated to improving the quality of life of members and caregivers through strength based approaches and compassionate care.  Success measures for this position include reliability, resourcefulness, and the ability to build relationships with diverse populations. The Day Center is centrally located and operates Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM- 6:00 PM. 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:        

  • Provides care and protective supervision to all Day Center clients while utilizing appropriate and effective approaches/techniques for serving individuals with dementia
  • Complies with all state licensing requirements and Day Center policies and procedures, including documentation of activities, as directed
  • Provides personal care of clients, including toileting and eating, documents assistance as required
  • Follows the standards of safety and sanitation within the Day Center; complies with all related licensing requirements, including general clean up and maintenance of the Center. Assists with food service and clean-up of snacks and meals
  • Assists and demonstrates assigned duties to volunteers
  • Promotes and facilitates good morale and cheerfulness among Day Center clients and staff
  • Performs other duties as required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with older adults, preferably those with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Training or experience in providing personal care assistance to older adults
  • Ability to learn first aid and become CPR certified. 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one year of experience with direct patient care

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Nurse Aid/Assistant Certification (CNA) required

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

 Microsoft Office

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

 Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
