We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

BakerRipley Community Based Initiatives division seeks an Immigration Attorney who will be responsible for providing immigration legal services to community members. The Immigration Attorney will report to the Managing Immigration Attorney.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct and comprehensive immigration legal services to eligible clients, primarily those individuals seeking assistance with applications for Naturalization, Adjustment of Status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, U Visa, VAWA Self-Petitions, and Affirmative Asylum.
  • Support the program's large scale Naturalization Forums by supervising attorney volunteers and providing technical advice
  • Assist the Managing Immigration Attorney in the development of the organization’s strategy for determining the scope of legal services to provide and how to offer such services most efficiently and effectively
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of community forums that will inform and engage members of the community seeking legal advice regarding their immigration status
  • Ensure that the legal services office operates in accordance with pertinent laws and regulations

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

    Law degree from an accredited law school

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 to 3 years (preferred)

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • License to practice law in the United States

SKILLS:

  • Proactive and communicative working style
  • Ability to independently manage a legal caseload
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or trafficking (preferred)
  • Prior experience in the relevant client community or in a similar community preferred

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency required
