Largely supported by private philanthropic investment, our community-based programs engage and connect individuals to the resources that meet their emerging needs and aspirations. We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

Provides quality instruction to adult learners, integrating meaningful classroom activities and valuable experience that facilitate student’s learning goals and workforce/workplace skills.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain awareness of current English language conventions
  • Support agency adult education initiatives at community centers by teach ESL/ABE/ASE classes, assuring that students are making levels and gains, and by managing students in this program
  • Assist Adult Education Lead Teacher
  • Actively recruit and ensure classes maintain enrollment
  • Teach ESL/ABE/GED and basic literacy classes to adults in a community center setting
  • Assist with program evaluation and reporting
  • Observe ESL/ABE/ASE classes and evaluate students in coordination with the Certified Tester staff
  • Attend mandatory trainings/professional development
  • Follow agency policy and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Sociology or related field preferred.
  • Texas Teaching Certificate preferred

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of (3) years working with Adult Education program.
  • Minimum of (1) year of social services experience preferred.
  • Minimum of (1) years working with ESL/ABE/ASE program.
  • Teaching experience working with adult students in a multi-level setting is preferred
  • Service connection experience helpful

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • TEAMS data system certificate
  • BEST Plus (Oral and Literacy) certifications assessment
  • TABE assessment certification preferred
  • Integrating Career Awareness (ICA) certification preferred

SKILLS:

  • Attend pre-service and in-service required hours for HCC contract. Complete 6 hours of pre-service orientation prior to employment. Complete 15 hours of in-service training each fiscal year for two complete program years
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and successful experience working in teams
  • Knowledgeable of Adult Education data entry systems, (TEAMS)
  • Able to work flexible hours including evening and weekends, depending on Adult Education class schedule.
  • Knowledgeable in instructional design and technology proficiency
  • Knowledgeable with the Communicative Approach
  • Familiar with Participatory Methodology/Popular Education
  • Strategies, and Processes to Deliver Goal-Driven Instruction for Adult Learners
  • Self-directed with the ability to work under stressful situations
  • Multi task oriented and flexible
  • Sensitivity and understanding in dealing with adult learners

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Intermediate in use of Windows, Excels, MS Word

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual Preferred
