JOB DESCRIPTION -Urban Farm Educator Program Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

Support the maintenance, activities and programs around the Urban Farm at Harbach Ripley. The Farm Educator will focus on administrating and connecting the Urban Farm at Harbach Ripley with the existing farmer base and extended community. Farm Educator will spend much of their day out in the garden, but will also be required to complete duties in the office. Farm Educator will be involved in every aspect of the Urban Farm but will be directly responsible of administrating the activities planned for the farm.
Farm Educator will be a visible team member that will socialize and interact with partners and community. Responsibilities include guiding tours, hosting monthly workshops and leading Urban Farm events. Farm Educator will post in social media to update community members about the development of the farm as well as well as customized educational farming tips.
Farm Educator will also be responsible of maintenance of the space. Will ensure successful planting, growth, weeding, harvesting and weekly progress of farm food and equipment. Maintain sanitary, safe and organized work and storage areas.
Farm Educator will work closely with Health and Wellness Manager to develop and maintain partner and
subcontractor relationships to strengthen and grow educational program offerings.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Health and Wellness Manager to plan for quarter planting and education sessions
  • Works administrating the implementation of the programs, events and workshops planned for the Urban Farm
  • Works developing relationships with current farmers, community and social media followers. Will serve as a liaison to all members to update and educate on farm progress
  • Works maintaining the Farm by weeding, planting, harvesting and reporting on Urban Farm fresh products pulled
  • Lead and implement the one time monthly activities planned such as; workshops, events and tours

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School or GED

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

3 years project management
1 year working or studying farms is preferred

SKILLS:

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Understanding of community engagement and development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and successful experience working in teams
  • Farm participant COMPUTER PROFICIENCY: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)


LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

English and Spanish is desired
