We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Fab Lab Education Assistant will be responsible for leading edcucational programming for students spanning all grade levels, including regularly scheduled weeknight and weekend programs for the public, camps, school groups, special events, and festivals.  The Fab Lab Education Assistant will be highly motivated and outgoing with excellent interpersonal skills enabling them to provide exceptional learning experiences for all students.  Additionally, the Fab Lab Education Assistant will assist in all aspects of the daily operation of Fab Lab Houston which includes, but is not limited to: program preparation, space organization, as well as management of supplies and inventory.

 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead student workshops and field trips at Fab Lab Houston
  • Deliver outreach program to schools and events with Mobile Fab Lab
  • Facilitate Teacher Professional Development
  • Brainstorming project design ideas and suggestions
  • Make reminder phone calls for class start dates and / or cancellation of classes, as applicable, to members and instructors
  • Data entry includes but not limited to class attendance and enrolling into and /or dropping students from classes as applicable
  • Assist students with their projects and in safely using equipment
  • Build community through student engagement
  • Keep inventory of materials and consumables
  • Ensure all students understand and follow Fab Lab Houston rules and policies
  • Administrative support to Fab Lab includes but not limited to customer service, answering phones, taking and relaying messages,  fee collection, preparing reports as needed, and inventory management.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalency

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

1+ years of relevant experience

SKILLS: 

  • Formal or informal teaching experience
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty members, students, staff, and outside vendors
  • Experience with fabrication equipment such as a vinyl printer / cutter, laser cutter, 3D printer, CNC mill, and others
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment; demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and collegiality
  • Fantastic customer service skills and a desire to work closely with students
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and hardware
  • Ability to effectively communicate complicated concepts
  • Enjoy the process of learning / sharing knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment with a high volume of people interaction
  • Willing to work flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

Intermediate knowledge of common desktop applications (web browsing, Office, image editing, etc)

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual English and Spanish
