We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Each year, Neighborhood Tax Centers assists thousands of low income families by preparing their taxes for free at twelve locations in the Houston area. If you are interested helping others while working in a fast paced, stimulating environment, please consider joining our team.
  • The Electronic Return Originator works in the main office and trains the client liaisons, manages the operations for transmitting and processing all tax returns throughout the tax season, receives IRS and State e-file Acceptance and Rejection reports, assures that e-file returns are resolved or that returns are mailed to clients for submission by mail, and researches and resolves TaxSlayer and database issues.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends the NTC Advanced training classes in December
  • Passes the IRS Advanced Certification exam
  • Creates an efficient review system so that returns are transmitted to the IRS and rejects are addressed within the time frames required by the IRS
  • Monitors the quality of tax return preparation at all tax centers
  • Tracks errors and coordinates with the Director to address  errors with staff members and/or volunteers
  • Corrects rejected tax returns
  • Serves as an available tax and TaxWise resource for tax center managers
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Director

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

    3 years tax preparation experience

SKILLS:

  • Ability to work quickly with great attention to detail
  • Experience with quick and successful decision making
  • Strong computer skills
  • Extensive knowledge of individual return tax law
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent logical, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and long hours from January through April

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Spanish preferred but not required
