Community Based Initiatives is a division of BakerRipley that builds on the unique economic and social assets of individuals and their neighborhoods, moving them to self-sufficiency and an improved quality of life. Largely supported by private philanthropic investment, our community-based programs engage and connect individuals to the resources that meet their emerging needs and aspirations. We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:

The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) works directly with agency center and program staff to build capacity and maximize connection to agency programs through extensive community outreach.  The CEM is responsible for engaging residents in agency programs and in their community by identifying and addressing individual and or collective actions that are of public interest.  The CEM will train residents on how to address topics of interest, work with others to find solutions to community challenges and how to interact with government institutions.  The CEM will introduce neighbors to and engage them in the civic process; they will establish and cultivate relationships with community leaders and partners who support our Get Out the Vote efforts.  The CEM identifies and works with local businesses and organizations who are seeking to launch programs that align with BakerRipley’s vision.



CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Establishes and cultivates relationships with community partners and government officials, including site visits, memoranda of understandings, agency orientations, etc.
  • Interacts with and coordinates political requests at the neighborhood level.
  • Supports CBI Leadership with municipal, state and federal government relationship development.
  • Responsible for the training, guiding and coordination of civic engagement projects and events with neighborhood residents.
  • Responsible for executing proactive engagement techniques to cultivate agency relationships with area Civic Associations.
  • Serves as direct liaison to Immigration and Business Opportunities and maintains a seamless transition for program participants into other agency programs and services.
  • Provide policy briefings to CBI Leadership and Executive Team that pertain to projects, plans, and long term goals.
  • Responsible for fostering relationships that support and build capacity for center and agency programs and initiatives.
  • Executes extensive volunteer recruitment efforts to operate successful engagement initiatives.
  • Leads effort to support local businesses and organizations through our Seeds for Change Grant initiative.
  • Using Appreciative Inquiry, designs, develops, and implements civic engagement strategies and programs to increase citizen participation and, ultimately, trust in City government. Develops mechanisms to measure and track levels of civic engagement over time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in governmental relations and civic engagement required

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the city required

SKILLS:

  • Effective project and time management skills.

  • Strong oral, written, and research skills.

  • Critical and strategic thinking.

  • Extensive experience in community organizing.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Knowledge in and experience with public policy at all levels of government.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office and Excel

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual preferred
