Job Description

To enhance the educational process by removing health barriers to learning through planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating health services in the charter schools. 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive school health program according to nursing standards of practice and departmental procedures and protocol.
2. Maintains communicable disease prevention and control measures and in some instances administers immunizations to protect students and others in accordance with state and local health department regulations and districts policies and department protocol.
3. Provides episodic and emergency health care to ill or injured students/employees.
4. Prepares paperwork to help route children to medical services and social services so that each child can achieve optimum academic and social development.
5. Assess the health and developmental status of students through performance of student’s evaluations and health appraisals. Performs special procedures. Develops and implements nursing care plans with specific nursing interventions.
6. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
7. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, agency policy, and administrative regulations.
8. Maintain health related inventory. Uses appropriate measures to request needed materials and supplies.
9. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutrition Education, Public Health or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years’ experience working as an RN preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current Registered Nurse required
  • Current State of Texas Vision and Hearing Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
  • Current CPR/ First Aid Instructors Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months or employment.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to effectively communication to the fullest extent with children and families with little or no English proficiency.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
