We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors.

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Mobile Fab Lab Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of the Truck/Trailer Mobile Fab Lab and the development of programs and services which meet the needs of students, teachers, and the community. The Manager will serve as a champion for the Mobile Fab Lab, promote the opportunities available through various venues in the area, and lead a new outreach program with school districts in Jasper County. The Manager will also establish protocols for safe and effective use of the lab and monitor and maintain optimal safety conditions. S/He will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, management of supplies and inventory, as well as scheduling and supervision of the mobile lab.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with educators to develop relevant workshops to support in-class learning
  • Drive Mobile Fab Lab
  • Travel with Mobile Fab Lab for multi-day sessions
  • Creating a welcoming, safe and engaging environment
  • Develop and deliver programming for participants on a range of subjects and skills
  • Assisting students with their projects and in safely using equipment
  • Brainstorming project design ideas and suggestions
  • Keeping inventory and handling materials and consumables
  • Performing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Possessing a working knowledge of tools and equipment
  • Performing consulting and training when needed
  • Learning, knowing and enforcing Fab Lab Houston rules and policies
  • Run and write reports for tracking and evaluating the Mobile Fab Lab services.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Required: Technical degree (ME, CS, IT) and/or similar job experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in education or other STEM-related field with significant technical experience.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years of related experience required.

SKILLS:

  • Ideal applicants have the following experience and skill sets:
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work alongside classroom educators
  • Mentoring, student aide or teaching experience
  • Experience driving large vehicles and trailers
  • Supervisory and teaching experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment; demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and collegiality
  • Must have strong general management, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Experience with image editing, CAD/CAM applications, and design software.
  • Experience with fabrication equipment such as a 3D printers, vinyl printer/cutter, laser etcher/cutter, and others.
  • Experience working in or using manufacturing/industrial and rapid prototyping technology and equipment.
  • Relevant industry, job or hobbyist experience
  • Fantastic customer service skills and a desire to work closely with people 
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications 
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail
  • Enjoy the process of learning/sharing knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment with a high volume of people interaction
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty members, students, staff and outside vendors
  • May be required to demonstrate competencies of various hardware/ software skills verified during the interview

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Intermediate knowledge of common desktop applications (web browsing, Office, image editing, etc.).
  • Intermediate knowledge of CAD/CAM applications
  • Beginner knowledge of programming Arduino and Raspberry Pi
