Largely supported by private philanthropic investment, our community-based programs engage and connect individuals to the resources that meet their emerging needs and aspirations. We provide a continuum of services including free tax preparation, family health and education, immigration and citizenship services, financial assistance and programs for youth and seniors. 
 
JOB SUMMARY:

The GED Instructor provides quality instruction to adult learners seeking to accomplish deferred educational goals. Working in a community setting with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, the successful instructor integrates meaningful classroom activities and valuable experiences to facilitate learning of competencies, workforce/workplace skills, and to help students pass the GED exam.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support agency Adult Education initiatives at community centers by teaching GED/ABE/ASE classes, assuring that students are mastering each subject area in order to pass to GED test
  • Instruct individuals in a classroom setting
  • Conduct needs assessment analysis for each participant
  • Develops educational plans for action for each participant
  • Monitor participants’ needs in order to remediate educational deficiencies
  • Maintain the required participant progress documentation
  • Attend all staff meeting and professional development
  • Keep daily attendance records and progress reports
  • Assess program students using the TABE and BEST tests are dictated by agreement
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis
  • Maintain records portfolios and student progress reports
  • Create a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity interest of the students
  • Assist in the counseling and guidance with emphasis on maximum progress of participants
  • Prepare and submit reports in a timely basis
  • Assist the program coordinator in such duties as deemed necessary in attaining the establish program goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 plus years in Teaching

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Teaching Certificate preferred

SKILLS:

  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants
  • Knowledgeable, mature and concerned with the welfare and academic progress of participants
  • Be Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm Be a Self-starter
  • Be a positive role model
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Uphold confidentiality and discretion with all sensitive matters
  • Ability to Tech in Multi-level classrooms
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and written form
  • Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to learn software use in the program
  • Should be willing to lean to use and teach courses using alternative delivery modes Internet
  • Ability to work flexible hours either morning, afternoon or evening
  • May be required to work outside regular working hours

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:

  • Microsoft Suite Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Email

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • English written and verbal preferred
  • Spanish written and verbal
